“Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.” -Acts 9:31
I love this scripture because it shows that the first century church was not a social group based within the walls of Jerusalem, but a worldwide movement of churches working together to evangelize the world in one generation! It is always amazing to be able to witness our church living out the Bible. This past week we were privileged to be able to receive a visit from some incredible leaders in God’s Kingdom! We simply entitled the weekend our “Spiritual Enrichment Weekend”. Just as the first century had a time of strengthening, the Las Vegas International Christian Church truly felt the “encouragement of the Holy Spirit” as we had Coltin & Mandee Rohn and Jared & Rachel McGee visit from the City of Angels International Christian Church! We were so overjoyed on Friday Night as the whole Las Vegas church gathered together to hear Good News by Coltin Rohn and an amazing sermon by Jared McGee simply entitled, ‘A Voice of One’. I personally am beyond grateful for their visit as we continue to build up God’s church here in Las Vegas. The Rohn’s and the McGee’s are such seasoned missionaries and leaders in the Kingdom that my goal was to soak up as much as I could from how they teach, preach, and live.
On Thursday, Margie & I were able to grab lunch with the Rohn’s and the McGee’s and have an amazing time being open, asking for advice, and receiving incredible discipling. I am so grateful that we are in a church that is full of people who are willing to call us higher in our everyday walks with God! On Thursday night, the BibleTalk Leaders were able to gather together with the Rohn’s and the McGee’s for a time of fellowship, preaching, and food. Coltin gave an amazing charge on having the faith to believe that we can have New Testament results in the Las Vegas Church. Everyone was cut to the heart and inspired that they could make a difference in this dark city by growing their BibleTalk! “But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus. This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.” –Acts 19:9-10 The apostle Paul held daily discussions in the lecture halls fo Tyrannus and the Bible says that the entire province of Asia heard the word of the Lord. The goal of our BibleTalks is that the entire city of Las Vegas hears the word of God!
On Friday during the day, the Rohn’s were able to have some individual time with some of the incredible disciples in the church here. Coltin and Mandee have such an incredible storehouse of convictions, experiences, and memories that any time with them is an absolute guarantee of spiritual growth.
“Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.” Hebrews 13:7 As this scripture states, the incredible ways of life of the Rohn’s and the McGee’s are outcomes that we can all imitate. Imitation is key to becoming a great disciple. At the end of the day, we never stop being learners. Personally, throughout these few days with them, I have come to realize numerous areas in my life in which I want to truly imitate Coltin & Jared in. This includes my marriage, my evangelism, my preaching, and my parenting. The highlight of the weekend was to be able to hear from Jared McGee on Friday night. His lesson entitled, “A Voice of One” was a textual study of Luke 3 and an examination of the man who prepared the way for Jesus, John the Baptist. His lesson was such an enrichment to the whole congregation as we were convicted, inspired, and challenged to do great things for God!
Coming out of this weekend, there are a few challenges before us as a church. My hope is that you can believe in the Word of God and in his promises. We tend to perceive difficult situations in one of three ways: problems, challenges, and opportunities. Which word you use will depict where you are at spiritually. Here are the opportunities for faith to be shown that we have as a church:
- We need more leaders! A leader is not only those who preach from the pulpit or lead the BibleTalk. A leader is one who eagerly desires to show people the way of how to be true disciples.
- Discipling is a command of God! (Matthew 28:18-20) Being defensive is a form of pride and will hinder you from truly growing in your walk with God. Let’s all make the decision to be humble to God and his word!
- Have the goal to go out and personally meet someone who becomes a true disciple of Christ by the end of the year!
One of the most moving moments was when Jared commended the church for being heroes in the faith for being faithful disciples in such a sinful place as Las Vegas. Let’s come out of this Spiritual Enrichment Weekend believing that God can use us to build an amazing discipling church!
